Peterborough United manager Luke Williams has described the progress of teenage forward Bolu Shofowoke as 'remarkable' as the 17-year-old's performances attract interest from Premier League clubs. Shofowoke scored his first senior goal in Tuesday's Carabao Cup victory over Championship side Watford at London Road, capping another impressive display.

Williams acknowledged that interest from bigger clubs is inevitable but believes it is too soon to discuss the youngster leaving. "Of course clubs will be interested in Bolu, but he’s still very young and only just settling into first-team football," the Posh boss said. "It’s incredibly difficult to make the adjustments Bolu has made so I hope everyone watching him appreciates how remarkable his progress has been."

Shofowoke has made nine first-team starts this season, often playing out wide rather than in his preferred central striking role. His goal against Watford, part of a comprehensive win, has reportedly caught the eye of Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and French side Strasbourg.

Contract situation

Williams also addressed the player's contractual position, noting Shofowoke's current deal runs until the end of this season. Peterborough United hold an option to extend that agreement until the summer of 2028, and the manager indicated the contract contains performance-related incentives. "Our Academy exists to provide first-team players for the club so it’s a bit too soon to be talking about him leaving," Williams added.

The manager's comments highlight the club's focus on developing and retaining its own talent, a key part of the strategy at London Road. Shofowoke's emergence follows a productive period for the Posh academy, with supporters keen to see homegrown players establish themselves in the first team.

With the transfer window closed, any formal interest would have to wait until January, giving Shofowoke a key period to continue his development in League One. His next opportunity to impress will come in Peterborough's upcoming league fixture, a detail all fans can find on the comprehensive fixtures schedule. The club's focus now shifts to maintaining their positive start to the campaign, with Williams likely to involve the promising teenager as they push for promotion.
