Peterborough United has completed the signing of Harrison Jones from Sunderland. Jones, a boyhood Sunderland fan, joined the club's academy during his schooldays and progressed through the ranks to reach the senior set-up. He made his senior Sunderland debut in August 2024 as a substitute in a League Cup defeat to Preston. The young player started January 2025's FA Cup defeat to Stoke City and made his league debut for the Black Cats the following month, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Jones captained Sunderland Under-21s in their Premier League Cup final in May and leaves the Stadium of Light having made a total of seven senior appearances. He joins a Peterborough side that finished 18th in the League One standings last season. Sunderland had triggered a 12-month extension to his initial deal on Wearside that was originally due to expire at the end of last season. By triggering the clause, Sunderland were able to ensure they received a fee for Jones and were able to insert a sell-on clause into the deal that took him to Peterborough. Luke O'Nien recently praised Jones, saying he's an unbelievable player and incredible. O'Nien added that Jones has been one of the most consistent trainers in the first team every single day. The transfer is a significant move for Peterborough United, who will be looking to improve their standings in the League One next season. Jones's experience and skills will be valuable assets to the team. The club's fans will be eager to see him in action and how he will contribute to the team's success. With this signing, Peterborough United is shaping up to be a strong contender in the League One.
