Former Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has reportedly been contacted by Leicester City regarding their soon-to-be vacant managerial position. The Foxes, set to return to League One for the first time since 2009, are seeking a new leader after current boss Gary Rowett confirmed his departure at the end of the season, following their relegation from the Championship.

Ferguson, widely regarded as a League One specialist, is considered a safe pair of hands at this level. The Scot, son of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, famously guided Peterborough United to promotion to the Championship on three separate occasions during his multiple spells at the club. Leicester's boardroom bosses are keen on his proven track record as they aim for an immediate return to the second tier.

Ferguson has been out of work since October, when his third tenure as manager of Peterborough United concluded. He was sacked by Posh after the club found themselves at the bottom of the league table, having secured just ten points from their initial 13 games of the season.

Beyond his significant contributions to Peterborough United, Ferguson's managerial career also includes stints at Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers. He successfully led Doncaster to promotion from League Two, further cementing his reputation as a manager capable of navigating the lower divisions of English football.

While Darren Ferguson is a prominent name, Dick Schreuder is another candidate linked with the Leicester City role. The 54-year-old Dutchman boasts a winning percentage of 56.89 per cent and has a diverse coaching background.

Schreuder's journey includes managing in his homeland, a brief spell as joint manager of Barnet, and four years in Dutch football's third tier. He also served on the technical staff at MLS side Philadelphia Union before becoming an assistant at TSG Hoffenheim and Vitesse. More recently, he returned to frontline management at PEC Zwolle, moved to Castellón in Spain, and is currently in charge of NEC.
