Peterborough United have confirmed two key appointments within their academy setup this week, strengthening the club's youth development structure. Academy Director Dan Robinson announced the permanent appointment of Hugh Alban-Jones as Lead Under 18s Coach and the hiring of Frankie Fry as the new Academy Pathway Lead.

The news sees the club solidify its coaching staff ahead of a busy period. Alban-Jones steps up from his interim role following Jimmy Unwin's summer departure, while Fry joins on a full-time basis to oversee player progression.

Hugh Alban-Jones is a familiar face at the club, having come through Peterborough United's own system as a player before moving into coaching. He served as assistant to Jimmy Unwin and took charge of the Under 18s for their pre-season fixtures, which included a 6-3 cup win over AFC Wimbledon and league draws against Coventry City and Colchester United. Robinson described him as "an exciting and high-potential coach who has worked with us for a number of years and came through our system as a player."

Frankie Fry brings extensive experience from non-league football to his new role as Academy Pathway Lead. He has worked with Peterborough United as a part-time coach for several years and will now focus on guiding players from the Nene Park Academy and other age groups into the Professional Phase. "Frankie comes with a wealth of experience working in non-league football and has worked with us for a number of years as a part-time coach," Robinson said. "He has an unbelievable pedigree from his father and we are delighted he is joining us on a full-time basis."

The internal promotions arrive as the first team seeks to improve its form in League One. Peterborough United currently sit 20th in the table with just four points from five matches. Their record shows one win, one draw, and three losses, with a recent run of form reading LDLWL. The side has scored only three goals while conceding nine, leaving them with a -6 goal difference and eight points adrift of early leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

Investing in the academy's future is a clear priority, with the club aiming to develop talent that can eventually bolster the senior squad. Fans can track the progress of the first team and its upcoming challenges on the club's standings and fixtures pages.

Alban-Jones will continue as the Under 18s Professional Development Phase Lead Coach, a role he assumed following Unwin's exit. His permanent appointment provides stability for the youth side as they compete in their league programme. His firsthand knowledge of the club's pathway from his playing days is seen as a major asset.

Frankie Fry's remit is broader, focusing on the entire player journey. He will work closely with youngsters across various age groups, including those on the full-time training model at Nene Park Academy, ensuring a smooth transition for those identified for the Professional Phase. This role is designed to create a more cohesive link between early development and first-team readiness.

The immediate focus for the club is an away trip to face Milton Keynes Dons on September 12th. MK Dons are currently 18th in League One, making it a significant early-season encounter for both sides. A positive result could help lift Peterborough United from their lowly league position. Supporters looking for detailed player information can always refer to the official squad list.

With the academy staff now settled, attention turns fully to the pitch. The next fixture at Stadium MK offers a chance to start climbing the table.
