Peterborough United Defender Still Out Due to Injury Issues
It is still not yet known when Peterborough United defender Sam Hughes will return to action. The Posh centre-back, and last season’s club captain, limped off a match in pre-season 2025/26 and has not been seen on the pitch since. His last competitive match came in April 2025.
Why the Injury Issues Matter for Peterborough United
The injury issues surrounding Sam Hughes are a concern for Peterborough United as they look to build a strong squad for the new season. With Hughes out, the team will have to rely on other players to fill the gap.
What Comes Next for Sam Hughes?
Peterborough United boss Luke Williams has confirmed that Hughes is still suffering with pain when ramping up the intensity of his training. Williams said: “He’s getting some pain so we just want to be sure that nothing is going on in there. Sometimes pain is a message from the body and other times its because the body is not used to doing the type of things it’s doing. We have to get to the bottom of that and it’s not fair to take a chance with Sam.”
Other Injury Updates
Tom O’Connor, who had not appeared in any match since January 17, made a successful return to the pitch for Peterborough United. He played for 45 minutes before being replaced by Lucca Mendonca. O’Connor had been out with a hamstring injury that cut short his loan spell from Wrexham last season.
Peterborough United are currently 18th in League One, 53 points behind leaders Lincoln, with a goal difference of -4. They have scored 64 goals and conceded 68 this season.
