Peterborough United have denied allegations of making an illegal approach to appoint Robbie Savage as their new manager. The League One club's chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, stated the process was "100% correct and proper, following all the rules."
Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince claimed Peterborough spoke to Savage directly after his club refused permission. "Peterborough themselves have covered themselves in no glory here," Vince told reporters. "They came to us and said 'we would like to speak to your manager'." He said permission was denied, but contact was made anyway, leaving Savage in a difficult position after a verbal offer was allegedly made and then denied by Peterborough.
MacAnthony, an EFL owner for 20 years, posted his rebuttal on social media platform X. He expressed respect for the process and wished Forest Green luck in finding a replacement. The National League club ultimately agreed to release Savage, and the 51-year-old was appointed within days, succeeding the departed Luke Williams.
Savage's tenure began with a 3-1 away win at Leicester City last Saturday, a result that moved Posh to 20th in League One with eight points from nine games. The club's recent form shows two wins from their last five matches, offering a positive start to the new managerial era.
