Peterborough United have completed the transfer of Ethan Williams from Manchester United, with the 20-year-old winger set to wear the number 10 shirt at the League One club. The 2026 pre-season has seen Michael Carrick give game time to multiple academy players, including Shea Lacey and Harry Amass. Ethan Williams was one of those youngsters, as he scored during Manchester United’s 5-0 win against Rosenborg in Trondheim. That performance has helped Williams secure a permanent move away from Old Trafford ahead of the new season. League One outfit Peterborough have announced the signing of Williams, who previously experienced first-team football on loan in League Two with Cheltenham Town and the Scottish Premier League with Falkirk. It is understood that Peterborough fought off interest in Williams from a host of clubs. Williams will wear the number 10 shirt at Peterborough. Speaking to Peterborough’s official website, Williams said: “The identity of this club is clear, they like to work with younger players and when I heard of the interest, it was a move that I wanted to make. I have been out on-loan at a couple of clubs, have gained a lot of experience of men’s football and felt it was the right time to leave United and sign for Peterborough. I have enjoyed my time at United and it’s always tough to leave a place like that, but there comes a time in your career where you have to make tough decisions to develop yourself and Peterborough is renowned for helping younger players.” Peterborough manager Luke Williams said: “Ethan is a player that will give us another option in the wide areas, he is quick, direct and will be a threat and I am looking forward to working with him. He has already got first team experience at a few clubs and joins us after being away with Manchester United on their pre-season tour, so he is fit and ready to go.” Williams’ highlights at United include a standout 2023/24 campaign when he won the U18s Premier League North title, National title, and Premier League Cup. The details of Manchester United’s Ethan Williams sale are below: - £750,000 fee - Buy-back clause and matching rights - 50 per cent sell-on clause. Williams could make his first appearance for Peterborough in their League One opener, away to Bradford City on Saturday. Peterborough will be looking to improve this season after finishing 18th in the previous two campaigns. With Williams up front, the aim will be to win more matches by scoring more goals. Everyone at United In Focus wishes Williams well in the future.
